Missed out on seeing some of your favourite Anderson shows on the big screen? Mark Joseph has given us his review of the second Gerry Anderson On Film Night in Southend on Sea and a run down of the entire event.
With the success of the first Gerry Anderson On film Night back in May and the shouts for more it seemed only right to organise another. On 17th November to a packed venue we all settled down to viewing more Gerry Anderson delights on 16mm film.
As with the first Gerry Anderson On Film night my son Andrew put together a short digital presentation to get the evening started. This time celebrating the 50th anniversary of Thunderbirds.
An action packed 5 minutes that went down well.
Again from my personal collection we started with The Protectors and “Blockbuster”. A great quality print and was well received. Particularly the part where the villains spray painted the van white using small spray cans.
Next “Crater 101” from Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons. A personal favourite this episode brings together Scarlet, Blue and Green attempting to recover the power source from the Mysteron complex on Mars. Action packed and this was the perfect way to go to the break.
Early arrivals had the chance to view the extraordinary exhibition of puppets, craft and other models on display in the exhibition room. Now in the break we all could marvel at the wonderful display. I have been so lucky to have made the acquaintance of Dan Cooper and James Winch who brought along the replica and original items. Words cannot express my gratitude.
So to the second part of the evening’s films.
U.F.O “The Responsibility Seat”. An interesting episode that shows a different side of Straker – perhaps a vulnerable one – as he mixes pleasure and work in a potentially security busting way.
I included a very short add break prior to our next film. The Gerry Anderson produced Jiff Desert ad.
Last and not least Thunderbirds “City Of Fire”. This is one of the faster paced episodes and a fitting end to another evening.
The next Gerry Anderson On Film evening is planned for May 2016 during the ever popular Southend Film Festival. What have I planned? Well watch this space!!
